Kews keep wilsonii as a synonym for Lilium maculatum var. maculatum. Nevertheless, we will list Lilium wilsonii separately.
Variant monticola is from Japanese mountains up to 1500 m, obviously more hardy than the type.

Japan, growing nearby the shores in sandy and rocky area
