Description
Lilium martagon Linnaeus 1753
Taxonomy:
Kew Gardens just accept two infraspecifics among Lilium martagon, as there is Lilium martagon var. martagon (habitats among Europe) and the Asian variation Lilium martagon var. pilosiusculum. As there are far more (at least colour-strains) we leave Kews´ point of view due to our propagation/preservation aims once more.
Origin:
Europe (widespread in various bright pink until purple colours)
Laboratory comment:
We took seeds from some Austrian habitats (Lower-Austria, Styria) for the in-vitro propagation and re-brought young bulbs into the wild again in order to increase the clonal diversity. Tissue-culture is of no need at this species. There even are some habitats within Austria´s capital Vienna. We found a natural habitat a few hundfred metres from the laboratory´s place.
